Sunday night reflections
What a weekend!
Starting with a GO! party on Friday night, another one on Saturday afternoon, then team-preaching the Saturday service with Chris, then making the trip to South Bend to preach there this morning while Chris preached the Shorewood service, and then finishing up with another great GO! party tonight - now that's a loooong weekend!
It was good all the way around, though - with another total attendance around the 1600 mark and great responses in each service to our "Go: before the Lord" message. I was particularly gratified by the reports from our experiment using the video teaching from Saturday night at both services in Tinley Park today. While we don't plan to utilize video teaching in TP, we do want to use that means of expanding our ministry reach as we open other campuses in the future, and hearing how well it was received today just proves to me that it will work elsewhere.
I laughed at several reports of how people were responding to the video as though we were there in person, including some who told me they kept looking to see where I was standing! My favorite report came from Kevin Carter, who had invited a guest to attend CLC today. When he apologized to his guest for not being able to introduce him to the senior pastor because he wasn't present, his friend said, "yes, he is - I saw him". When Kevin said where, the friend pointed to the screen and then looked for me on stage! After today, no one can tell me that video teaching won't work!
Then, to my great surprise, I returned home in time to watch the second half of the Bears-Packers game and witness one of the biggest turnarounds I've ever seen, as Griese pulled it off in the closing minutes. Life doesn't get much better than this!

Actually, it was interesting. I didn't get a seat on my typcial side nor near the front. There seemed to be a bit more distraction but it was good & folks were responding. When you suggested we turn to our neighbor & say whatever it was...my left side friend said she just coudn't get into the video. "Look, they are responding as if Pastor's here." To which I replied, "We are responding to the message, not the man." Glad it won't be the norm here, but it worked for me.
What I did miss were worshipping pastors/leaders in the front row. I've always appreciated that about you & Pastor Chris. You are there from the start of service; worshipping with us & setting an example that worship is not just a preliminary activity.
Someone said it is a gift to be able to withdraw from the "throngs" in time to find your place to worship. Be it gift or priority...thanks.
Hi Pastor Jerry!
It's Patricia E. I enjoyed the teaching yesterday greatly, but I did miss you and Pastor Chris. The funniest thing to me as well was when you asked to see a show of hands and people in the sanctuary (including me!) raised their hand. Ken and I were giggling at the people when Zack leaned over and said that if you were there we wouldn't be doing that. I told him that because you weren't there, you couldn't see us. This 15 year old young man kindly leaned over and said, yeah, but God sees you. And the children shall lead them......
Thanks for more stories for my collection, Carmen & Pat - I'd heard for the past few years how well the video delivery was working for other multi-site churches, but now I'm sure!
BUT, my heart is in Tinley, so we won't be making a practice of this - I'm just excited to know that our plan of using video as we add campuses is definitely doable!
