DaVinci code???

I'm hearing more and more about people taking Dan Brown's novel, The DaVinci Code seriously.  In fact, some recent survey's indicate that people in North America who have read the fictional book say it was "very helpful to their spiritual understanding" - which is a scary thought for me, since it's based on blatant distortions of historical facts and deliberately seeks to undermine some of the most basic truths of Christianity.

I've got no problem with good fiction; in fact, I'll probably watch the movie with Tom Hanks when it comes out next month.  My concern is whether people really are looking at it as fact instead of fiction and especially whether we should address it at CLC, to help you defend your faith and even use this as an opportunity to reach out to your non-Christian friends.  How 'bout it?  If you have an opinion as to whether a sermon or two debunking the DaVinci code myths would be helpful to you, please weigh in with your comments here, or drop me an email today.  Seek the truth!

I think those who are most enthusiastic about this book are those who have already been looking for some reason to discredit the claims of Christianity in the first place. However, there may be some believers who may have their faith waver when they hear others take the fiction of this book as fact. Another group may be those who are not believers but may have been open to it before they heard the claims in this book. I think that those Christians who have a solid understanding of the scriptures and their faith, this book doesn't do much damage. However, for the other groups, who may be sitting in our congregation, addressing it might prove beneficial. It may even raise the interest of Christians to study the word more so that they may be able to answer others who come to them with false ideas and beliefs. That is my opinion.

As the church scattered, we ought to be informed and articulate regarding topics our neighbors, colleagues, and family are discussing. Perhaps they will ask our opinion and we should be ready with an answer that will enlighten. We are not Christians living inside a box, but in the world amoung people who are looking for answers. It's worth exploring. Let's do it~

I think the better equipped an army is, the better the chance of winning the war. People are obviously searching for answers or a deeper understanding and what better way to equip our soldiers and also reach the lost than with the truth. I think this is something that should be addressed and, based on your history, Pastor, I know that you will deal with this subject in a way that will both edify the believer and equip us to reach the lost. Proverbs 10:17 says, "He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.
