ever wonder why....

OK.....I admit it. I'm a little frustrated today. As part of our recent series on finances, we offered a FREE seminar for first-time home-buyers - for several reasons: (a) I do believe owning your own home instead of pouring money down a rent-trap is one step toward building weath; (b) I've also been 'nudged' by the Lord that we should help CLCers in practical ways like this; and (c) I know we have several single moms and even families who currently are renting and would very much like to have their own home.

So we specifically chose a CLC realtor who could identify, having been a single mom with lots of debt and no property ownership just a few years ago herself, and now having a successful business. We advertised and promoted and had tons of phone calls and interest from the congregation. But when I showed up this afternoon to introduce the seminar, only a handful of people had come. We actually had about as many professionals on hand to 'help' as we did interested people.

I've been pastoring for a long time, but it never ceases to amaze me - why is it that people who need help the most don't take advantage of the help that is offered??? Or is that a rhetorical question? Is the reason they're in need because they don't take advantage of help? Just wondering....

Thanks for offering such a seminar...so glad you did & so glad I went. I came away with some spiration and "can do" spirit. This financial series has definitely made a very practical impact on my life. I've implemented the debt reduction snowball..from the day after you taught it and it feels really good to be on my way to a healhier financial tomorrow. Thanks, again, for teaching & reaching where we live.

The seminar was a great opportunity, sorry the attendance was poor. I thought about your "rhetorical question"...I think some people struggle with FAITH and not believing or accepting the promises God have in store for us..Its a process learning how to take ownership to our inheritance as His children..I think it starts with FAITH..Another factor may be that in life we (people) handle things or depend on ourselves alot, it may be hard for some to ask for help or to reconize the blessing of help when it occurs..just thinking at 3 in the morning..

I understand and agree with what you said but the positive comment that you might want to put in your Blog is that 87 people attended the Crown One day Journey to Financial Freedom Seminar the week before. (This was a real answer to prayer for me!) And that CLC will soon be offering Crown small groups.

But you are right, it is an uphill struggle and we have to be intentional and sometimes life and people are just plain frustrating. The only answer that I can give is that I am glad that He is God and I am not! Regards - Paul

OK, Carmen - I'm not frustrated anymore....thanks for sharing that, because in reality, if we're helping just one person, I'm a happy camper!
