Feel like a broken-winged duck?
I checked out of the blogosphere for the last few days so Chris & I could have some time together. We didn't really go away on vacation; just got away from the office and did some fun stuff together to recharge our batteries.
But today is 'back to work', so I crawled out early and did my morning walk around the lake (usually 3 miles a day; this morning I cheated and stopped with 2.5). But what I noticed on a couple of my laps was the duck (or goose) that Chris had actually mentioned to me a few days ago. The poor fellow (or gal - I honestly didn't check) has suffered a broken wing somehow or other, so it just kinda sticks out at an awkward angle now. At any rate, he was just swimming around, floating in the lake by himself today.
Seems the entire flock that inhabit this lake have moved on to other locales - without him. I guess he really can't keep up with 'em anymore in the air or maybe even on the water, so they must have moved on, leaving him to languish behind all by his lonesome, without his duckie buds (You wouldn't call 'em "peeps", would you? Honks, maybe?). Wait, I digress.
My real point is that Christians and Churches can sometimes be like geese. Sometimes, when you're hurting the most, and not really able to keep up, it seems like everybody else moves on without you. And from the look of my goose friend this morning, I know that's no fun.
But it doesn't have to be that way. One of the things I love about CLC is that it's not that way. If you're hurting, whether from a broken wing, or a broken heart, I promise that there are folks here who will stick with you and help nurse you back to health.
But it starts with this - you take the initiative to let a brother or sister know your need, so that you can truly be healed. (Someone smarter than me has said "we confess our sins to God to be forgiven; we confess our sins to each other to be healed") Ultimately, this is the result.
Do you have a friend you can confess to? Do you need our help in finding one? Have you ever had a 'broken wing' that got healed thru relationships with others? Let me hear from you.

I remember walking in to CLC for the first time and I had more of 2 broken arms, a wounded knee and a broken heart. But I remember so clearly for whatever reason Beth Steindel made sure to speak to Ken and I every week and ask us how we were doing and would wait for us to respond. She would answer all of our questions and always ended with a smile. Beth has continued to be a dear friend down through the years and will always hold a special spot in our lives.

There are people that I've met at CLC that have touched my life and that I will always remember. Arlene Beale, Deborah Pierce, Dorothy Caldwell, the members of the Worship Dance Team have shown me much love and given me much encouragement. I'm not exactly a "people" person because of being disappointed in the past, but God is teaching me the importance of relationship(s). When we're open and receptive, He manifests His love and power through us toward others.
Thanks, ladies - AND Beth, Arlene, Deborah, Dorothy & others. It's folks like you that make this family what it is - glad I get to be a part!
