writing in my future???
I've mentioned this in another blog recently, but again this week I've had several comments to suggest that I should give consideration to some writing projects. One that I heard repeatedly at the FLSC in Akwanga had to do with the same theme of "Team Ministry" (husbands and wives working together as a team to accomplish more than they could separately). I shared that teaching at the conference, and heard over-and-over again from various pastors how it had opened their eyes to seeing their wife as never before.
It's a message that I do feel passionate about, knowing how blessed I am with a wife who is truly my partner in ministry - and it's also a message that The Church needs to hear, since women are still discriminated against in ministry, at least in many parts of the world.
The latest comments came from my travelling companion on this trip (what a blessing he's been!), Dr. Yomi Akintorin, who serves with his wife, Mope, as one of our elders at CLC. He reminded me after service last night of the lasting and far-reaching effects of the printed page, and encouraged me to share some of my teachings in that format.
What do you think? I guess this blog is even one way that I can do that. Are you finding benefit from reading? Do you feel writing would be a worthy investment of my time? I'd really like to know what CLCers think, so click on 'comment' and let me know here.

Pastor J, I benefit from your blogging in several ways. It helps me get to know a part of the 'man' that is behind the title, and how this real life affects him. Many times I agree -- many times I don't -- but I appreciate the opportunity to "know".
As for a book, why not? I love the internet, but there's nothing like like curling up with a good book I can "talk to" -- making notes and such. Folks in developing nations might find a book to be ideal, too.
If the Lord says do it, "just do it!"

Thanks, Albert - it's neat to hear you say (write) that. One of the main reasons I blog is for that very purpose - especially as we've grown, and it's no longer for me to have the kind of close relationship that I would like to have with everyone in the congregation. I'm hoping my random thoughts in this medium are helping many CLCers to 'know' me.
Pastor Jerry, I couldn't resist sending a message about this. You've mentioned writing before and I didn't speak up then, but now I will. I've always enjoyed your conversational preaching and now reading your blog is like sitting with you over a cup of coffee. I definitely think writing a book or even books would be great. So I say to you: Ready, Set,.....
I love my pastor!
I like the idea of writing a book about husbands and wives in ministry together. It is something that I haven't seen so much in many churches but I bet it has many benefits.
If you decide to do this there is a question that I wonder if you could address. I have heard about the strain in marriages when one spouse is heavily involved in ministry, while the other is only in the sidelines as support. Is it possible that partnership in ministry has an added benefit of strengthening the marriage as well?
Thanks, Randy - I love you, too!
And thanks for the question - I definitely think Chris & I can address that, at least from our vantage point. It IS an added benefit to our marriage, but it's also fraught with additional challenges - but I'll save that for the book :)
You really need to write if you feel God calling you to that. I think ministers can benefit from the idea of team pastoring. My wife and I have really benefited from it. The challenge is making sure we don't come home with work.
The blogs are a definate. It connects your heart with everyone in the church.
Hi Pastor J!
This answer to this inquiry was easy -- GO!

Working beside my husband as a partner in our small ministry is definitely a blessing. One can only imagine how much of a blessing it is for you and Chris to share so much together!
