Sunday afternoon reflections

It's Sunday afternoon; kids are doing their thing; wife is taking a nap; and only Jasper is around to keep me company. I'm tired. And surprised. And a little dreadful. But definitely excited.

Tired because, well, that's always how I feel after preaching 3 times on the weekend. (But grateful for all the comments - seems like CLCers are gushing more about the preaching lately - and while I know it's the polite thing to do for the pastor, it feels sincere, and I'm grateful for each of you who are being encouraged by the Word - I know I am, and I hear it first :-)

Surprised that San Diego upset Indianapolis. No more comments, just surprised that Peyton didn't pull it off.

A little dreadful of the next 3 days of doing without food again. (The 'Daniel fast' really wasn't too bad the past 4 days). But as I said this weekend publicly, I know the fast is doing me good!

Excited for sure - about the Prayer Journey this Wednesday; the "First Love Conf." this Friday-
Saturday-Sunday with some of the most dynamic, prophetic and anointed ministers I know, plus the always-refreshing David & Nicole Binion to lead us in worship - I gotta tell you: I think this is going to be The Best conference at CLC ever!

I'm even excited about the next installment of "Heroes" (our sermon series; not the TV show) - but that's another post. For now, I'm going back to the couch to watch Dallas and NY fight it out for the privilege of losing to Brett Favre next week.

Hi Pastor Jerry,

First let me thank you for being so authentic and transparent in the way you live your life before us. We like the fact that you minister to us as a man first then a pastor! An then let me say WOW! Your past 3 sermons have been just what my soul needed. I too have been laboring under some spirit of depression that I couldn't put my finger on. Now I know that I took my eyes off The Captain.

Now, to the raging blogger (just read these posts), I can only tell this person what Bishop Bismark told one of his workers last year ... "I BEG you Sir or Ms, PLEASE GO"! Leave QUICKLY before you poison the water!

There is NOTHING wrong with CLC. There is nothing wrong with leaving churches unless you're church hopping. I belonged to a very large mainstream Apostolic church for nearly 23 years. Now THAT was an organized church thing in which we felt we were no longer growing. We searched for a new church home for 2 YEARS! When the time was right, God lead us to CLC through a concert! (go figure)

I have to tell you Pastor Jerry ... we LOVE our church and our church family. Sure everything is not perfect, but our own personal family is not perfect. In fact we love CLC because it is the way it is ... open and loving, very strong foundationally, quirky in some ways, not overly organized with "an A and B selection, then the offering" type of vibe. And man have we grown spiritually in recent months! I'm excited every time I step through the door to see what God is going to do next!

It was hard for me to leave our former church, but it was past time to go. We thought we were leaving, but in reality, the Lord was ushering us on into newness. We haven't regreted our decision one single day.

Personally, I think "GO" scared some folks. You can't talk about sacraficial giving and people not feel uncomfortable. Too bad for those who feel that way. They need to read their bible more and learn of the true blessings that can be their's with giving. Oh Well!

Looking forward to this weekend Pastor Jerry. I know it's going to be great! Keep looking UP! Know that we follow you because you are following Christ!

Thanks, Linda (and David). I wish we were as good as you give us credit for being!

But I'm thankful for good folks like you who continue to come and be a part of our CLC family. As Chris & I have often said, this is the FIRST church we've ever served that we would attend even if we weren't the pastors - and it's all because of the incredible people we get to serve! Thanks for being one of them-
