E-sabbath

I've thought about it and talked about it for long enough; it's time to do something.

I first got the idea from Mark Batterson, but I've heard several others talk about the need and the benefits in recent months.

So, starting in just a few minutes, I'm going to observe a weekly "E-sabbath", which means on my day off each week (actually from bedtime the night before, until wake-up the morning after), I'm NOT turning on my cell phone or going on the internet or reading/sending any email. Instead, I'm going to BE with my wife instead of being distracted and "just handling this one" when we're together.

Everybody needs to recharge their batteries occasionally, or risk a more serious problem at the worst possible time. At least that's how I see it.

What do you think?

I think you can do it!! It is a discipline that all Leaders have to master,Balance. Those who love and care for you will keep things together for "one Day a week". A very healthy choice. I am so glad you are my Pastor.

I applaude you Pastor Jerry. I am so proud of you and honored that you are my Pastor. This E-sabboth might be something that is passed on either in service or in Men's Fraternity. Imagine the impact it could have on marriages and families if those spouses or children knew that at this certain time they would have your undivided attention. Simply Amazing.

Just read Perry Noble's blog and the blog entry about cell sin. I feel more encouraged to detach from my cell phone and email. Since our fast, I've been apprehensive about turning on the car radio and more careful about what I watch on TV. I do not want noise and garbage to fill me up. There's just something about peace, quiet, and being still. I find myself making time for those moments more and more.

Thanks, folks - I really didn't do it for your applause (or expect any) - but I sure like the results. Thanks, Yolanda for pointing me to Perry's comments, too - great stuff!
